Failed in NEET, left UPSC, but now successfully secured a ₹72 lakh package at Rolls-Royce – Rituparana’s Success Story

Everyone’s success is a different path; some easily succeed in their life, while others have to do a lot of things to become successful. Here, we see the example of Rituparna K.S. After completing her schooling, she started preparing for NEET, but after a few years, she dropped out and started preparing for UPSC. Later, she dropped out of UPSC and successfully secured a ₹72.3 lakh per year job at Rolls-Royce.
It All Started With a Dream to Be a Doctor
Rituparna grew up in Koduru, a small village in the state of Karnataka. Like many students, her first goal was to become a doctor. She studied for NEET, gave it her best shot, but didn’t get a government seat. That could’ve been the end for some, but not her.
She started preparing for UPSC, aiming to clear the civil services and secure a rank. That didn’t last long either. At some point, she realized it just wasn’t her thing.
Switching Gears to Engineering (Thanks to Her Dad)
Not knowing what to do next, she took her dad’s advice and tried something completely different—engineering. In 2022, she was admitted to Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management with a focus on Robotics and Automation. At the time, she didn’t know this would change her life.
While in college, she got interested in robotics, especially after watching what her seniors were working on. She wanted to build something useful, something real. And she did.
A Project That Caught Everyone’s Eye
Along with her team, she created a robotic sprayer and harvester to help areca nut (supari) farmers. The tech was impressive enough to grab international attention. It even won gold and silver medals at the INEX International Conference in Goa, where people from countries like Japan, Singapore, and China showed up.
Rolls-Royce First Said “No”
Feeling more confident, Rituparna decided to aim big. She applied for an internship at Rolls-Royce. But the company turned her down, saying she probably wouldn’t last even a month on a project.
Instead of backing down, she asked for just one chance. They gave her a one-month task. She finished it in a week.
From Internship to ₹72 Lakh Salary
Rituparna started searching for an internship, and she saw an opportunity at Rolls-Royce. She applied for an internship. She was accepted by Rolls-Royce and they gave him a very hard project for the 8 months. She started an internship at night in the UK along with her classes.
In December 2024, Rolls-Royce offered her a job of ₹39.6 lakh per year, but in April 2025, due to her extraordinary performance, she got a new package of ₹72.3 lakh per year. After her 7th semester, she is going to move to Texas, USA, and officially join the company.
No Clear Plan, Just Clear Grit
Rituparna didn’t have it all figured out. She failed, changed her path, tried new things, and kept showing up. That’s what made the difference.
She also made it to the DC Fellowship Program, selected among 15 students from Dakshina Kannada. Her work spoke louder than any exam score ever could.
Final Thought
Rituparna’s story reminds us that if you fail in the starting days, it doesn’t mean you become a failure. From failing from NEET and dropping out of UPSC, she still fought and didn’t give up. With hard work and, right mindset, she today secured this job and has become an inspiration for lots of students.
