The story starts with the sudden death of an ageing billionaire, Ranjeet, on his lavish cruise, bringing chaos to the lives of those aboard the ship. The situation gets crazy when three Jollys (Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh) come and claim themselves as jolly. Apart from this, on the ship, there was a masked killer, so everyone was a suspect.
Houseful franchises are known for their silly comedy, so when you watch the movie, you know what to expect. Akshay Kumar slapping monkeys, girls showing cheaply, and Ritesh Deshmukh gobbling a parrot as annoying as the one in ‘Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon’, which shows nothing new. You get frustrated with some lines such as ‘Thokte raho……. Taaliya’, ‘mera Popat kabhi nahi uthega’, which overlooks cringe, but the franchise all knows about it. There is nothing special that surprises you. It feels like makers don’t use actors who are famous for their comic timing.
Housefull 5, written by producer Sajid Nadiadwala and co-written and directed by Tarun Mansukhani (who successfully directed Dostana), starts from a luxury cruise ship, but the story quickly gets out of the plot and never recovers.
Due to easy access to world cinema, we all know that real humor comes from real situations, not from over-the-top and unusual situations. A murder mystery-comedy with unusual glamour easily loses its plot.
Akshay Kumar tries hard with his slapstick comedy, but still, you miss Akshay Kumar Auro, which you show in ‘Welcome’ or ‘Singh is Kinng’. He leads ‘Housefull 5’ and tries his best to manage the movie.
Abhishek Bachchan and Riteish Deshmukh both try to give some madness, but their lack of good humor. In the movie, we can clearly see the lack of some fresh jokes. There are lots of jokes and shorts that you have all already seen in the previous ‘Housefull’ movies.
Johny Lever is hardly offered anything to do. He is one of the brilliant comedians who once ruled the Bollywood comedy, but here he is only used as a screen filler. However, the comedy depends on Sanjay Dutt, Nana Patekar, and Jackie Shroff, even if they come for a short period of time.
